What it makes

A short text animation of your words being handwritten, letter by letter, in the font and ink you pick. Most animated text generators slide, bounce or type the letters in; here the pen follows each stroke the way a hand would, so it reads as writing rather than a fade or a typewriter. Choose a pen tip to show where the line is being drawn, set how long the writing takes, and how long the finished words stay on screen.

Using the text animation in your video

  1. Pick the shape of your video. 9:16 for TikTok, Reels and Shorts, 1:1 for feeds, 16:9 for YouTube.
  2. Choose Transparent or Green screen. Transparent WebM drops straight onto your footage in Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve and After Effects. For CapCut, TikTok’s editor or iMovie, download the green screen MP4 and use Chroma key or Remove background.
  3. Place it on a layer above your clip and trim it to where the words should appear.

Want a sticker for a chat or a slide? The GIF loops on its own, and the PNG is the finished words as a still.

Choosing a font

Handwriting fonts like Cursive, Script and Allure look most like real pen on paper and suit titles, names and short notes. Subtitles fonts are bold and plain for anything people need to read fast. Clean and Titles work for labels, chapter names and lower thirds, and Decorative is for a word or two, not a sentence. Keep handwriting short: three to six words read best, and a slower writing time makes long lines feel calm instead of rushed. White or highlighter ink with the Comet tip stands out on dark footage; royal blue on paper looks like a fountain pen.

Questions

Is the animated text generator really free?

Yes. There's no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many text animations you make. The animation is drawn and encoded by your own browser, so it costs us nothing to run.

Do my words get uploaded anywhere?

No. The preview and every download are made on your computer. Nothing you type is sent to a server.

How do I get a text animation with a transparent background?

Pick Transparent, then download the WebM, GIF or PNG. MP4 can't store transparency, so a transparent MP4 comes out on green screen instead, which any editor can key out.

Which browsers work?

GIF and PNG work in any modern browser. MP4 and WebM need video encoding in the browser: current Chrome and Edge make both, Safari makes MP4. If a format isn't available, its button says so.

Can I write on my own video instead?

Yes, that's what the Inky Clips editor is for. Open your clip, type a title or let it caption the speech in any of 99 spoken languages, and export an MP4. It's free with a Google account and the video never leaves your computer.

Write on your own video

Open a clip in the free editor and write titles or captions straight onto it.
