Hershey Serif Bold Italic font
Hershey Serif Bold Italic leans the bold Hershey roman forward and gives it true italic letterforms, so lowercase a, e and f take on a flowing, written shape. Like the upright bold, its weight is made from several parallel strokes.

About Hershey Serif Bold Italic
What it looks like
It has more movement than the upright version, which makes it feel more expressive and less formal.
On video
Good for emphasis: a single headline word, a film-style title, a quote. It looks especially good written slowly.
For plotters, engraving and cutting machines
Plots as bold italic type with a single pen. The slant hides small registration differences between the parallel strokes, so it is more forgiving than the upright bold.

Where it comes from
Dr. Allen V. Hershey drew the Hershey fonts at the U.S. Naval Weapons Laboratory in Dahlgren, Virginia, and published them in 1967, among the first typefaces made for computers. Every letter is stored as pen strokes rather than an outline, because they were drawn for the vector plotters and screens of the day. They have travelled through plotter software, CAD and engraving tools ever since, and Inkscape's Hershey Text extension still uses them.
